Weather and Climate
The Southern Midlands municipal area has a cool temperate climate with mild to warm summers and cold winters. Weather conditions can change quickly at any time of the year. In summer, maximum temperatures average 24°C and in winter the average maximum is 12°C.
The area is in the rain shadow of the Central Highlands and therefore receives low rainfall compared to other regions of Tasmania. Annual rainfall ranges from 450–500 millimetres. In some locations the average rainfall is 700 millimetres due to the impact of easterly rainfall systems.
